Overview:

Floss Selection is very important when converting graphic images into patterns. Understanding this topic will go a long way in helping you get the most from your imports. The most important point to understand is that the more colors you have in your design (many floss colors), the closer your import will look to the image.
For example:
The image we provide in our sample contains thousands of different colors. Although today’s floss manufactures provide a wide range of available colors, there are simply not enough floss choices available to exactly match the colors in your image.

Click on the Floss Tab at the bottom of the Import Wizard. You can map the image colors to any PCStitch Pro floss list, or a saved floss palette. For this tutorial we will map the colors to DMC Stranded Cotton floss.
Important point: The number of colors you allow the software to use has a huge impact on the outcome.
Change the Maximum Colors to Use to 5 and click the Show Preview box. You should see an image in the
pattern preview window giving you the a general idea of how the pattern will look. It sure isn’t very good!
Most imported pictures need quite a few colors to make a good looking pattern. Change the maximum colors to use box to 50. The pattern preview will show you a pattern that looks a lot better! There is no hard and fast rule for how many colors to use. We recommend that you start small and work your way up until you find a pattern that looks good.
